Let The Church Say...(PODCAST)

Historically, the church has been the centerpiece of communities. It has been the place where individual souls have gone for restoration, as well as the focus point for social movements. However, in recent times, it appears that the church's role in the community has become less defined than ever before. So in this episode, the FreeLunch guys offer their opinions on whether today's church is building the people up or letting them down. Music: K.L.U.B. 1. I’m a member of a “Franchise” church (one church in 3 locations) & I L-O-V-E-E-E my church!!!

I see both perspectives & I’ve been a member of both church styles but I’m still a fan of the new age, non-denominational, come as you are, teaching style with a gospel / hip-hop flare. Most Sundays I get dressed up for church but there are some Sundays when I go to church my jeans & heels on. As phenomenal as I feel my Pastor is, I realize that he may not be the Pastor for someone else. We all should be seeking to find the voice that speaks to us; that inspires us, pushes us to grow, reflect, self-evaluate, re-strategize & try again. Hence the catch-phrase, “You should be Growing Where You’re Going”. I too was shocked when I first heard Bishop Jamal Bryant said “These Hoes Ain’t Loyal” from the pulpit. However, in listening to the two of you in this discussion, I went to YouTube to hear the sermon in its entirety & ooommmggg… it was a profound message! Talk about Accountability & The Role of the Black Church in the Black Community; that sermon exemplified accountability & the role! The message speaks to both the cerebral & the un-churched (who are new to the Lord’s House).

As a Sales Rep, part of my job is influencing people’s habits & I’ve learned that my success hinges of being able to identify & then meet people where they are. Although unorthodox, that’s exactly what Bishop Jamal Bryant did and that’s what the two of you are doing (for those who have an ear to hear & eyes to see). The bottom line is…everybody doesn’t want help. We have talkers & then we have doers. Some people stop at talking; all the want to do is talk & when they’re done, they do nothing. Just like some people go to church out of habit; like punching a time clock “I’m here”. It’s easy to take the path of least resistance & point the figure at: the church or other people & ask “what are they are doing”…because it takes work, when we put the accountability on ourselves. Just my opinion but I would thing that those who are truly seeking growth, looking for accountability & wanting to be the change they desire to see; those people aren’t waiting on the church to step up; they’re already leading the charge within the on sphere of influence. They’re coming to church with the mind set of, what can I learn today & how can I apply it to my life when I leave.

The good news is… regardless of which church style people prefer & even if you’re a person who goes to church out of habit; the one thing we can’t overlook is the Power of the Holy Spirit! Hence the point that one of you made about the slaves being forced to attend church service with their Master. The Master’s intention was to use the Bible as a way to keep the slaves submissive. But what they meant for evil, the Holy Spirit made for our good; we eventually adopted their religion as our own, started our own churches & are in a position to uplift our own people. So God, is good & He’s faithful!!!

Keep up the good work Gentleman : )

  3. "Afternoon Snack"© post commentary episode 1. What we learned from "Let the Church say Amen" -

#1 The church has to be accountable. The church has been the rock and most stale institution for clarity, spiritual foundation, guidance and comfort. Too many churches today "appear to have entered upon a period of mad competition for obtaining members." It seems that some churches are more interested in your salary rather than your salvation. Churches franchise as fast as your local McDonald's. We're not scrutinizing the size of the church, (cause small churches miss the focus too, if you been the same 5 families for 50 years there's no growth, you need check yourselves too) but you have to be careful to not lose the focus which is the people, when you lose that you lose, period.

#2 The people or parishioners also need to be personally accountable for personal devotion, reading of the bible, prayer, & being active in the church rather than coming to be entertained and

#3 Y'all find a pastor for Tight to talk to! I'm Ccampbell & I hoped you enjoyed your afternoon snack, see you when I see you!
